We invite submissions to ONE of the following categories:
Screen-based Practice Research (short, up to 60 mins): e.g. original film/TV/moving image screen media
Screen-based Practice Research (feature, over 60 mins): e.g. original film/TV/moving image screen media
Emerging and Immersive Screen Media Practice: submitted as accessible for viewing without requiring specific technology (e.g. 360 Online)
Videographic Criticism (no minimum/maximum running time): e.g. including scholarly video/audiovisual/visual essays which explore the screen media object via moving images and sounds
Doctoral Award: practice research that was completed or is ongoing as part of doctoral study. All doctoral work must be submitted to the doctoral category. Doctoral submissions to other categories will be discounted.
RULES
All applicants must have a current BAFTSS membership. You can join or renew here.
Entries must consist of a portfolio including:
a link to the artefact (and instructions on how to access if emerging media or XR), and password if applicable
a research statement of 500–1000 words documenting the research rationale
a press image
a short bio
Portfolios that were submitted to BAFTSS Practice Research Awards 2025 are not eligible for resubmission
Only one submission per entrant
Works completed or ongoing as part of doctoral study should be submitted to the Doctoral Award category only
Work produced between 1 October 2024 and 30 September 2025 is eligible
The portfolio is intended to enable nominees to point towards the wider research context. We ask you to define the contribution to knowledge, which can be outside the narrowly defined area of film or digital studies (e.g. humanities, gender or post-colonial studies).

The winners, runners-up and honourable mentions will be announced at the BAFTSS Annual Conference in April 2026. The shortlist will be announced in advance.
