Overview

Contributing to the expansion of research frontiers of East Asian screen cultures established by influential scholars with an excellent body of pioneering works in the field, this SIG continues the spirits and aims to provide scholars and research students with an active platform to exchange ideas, generate debates, and form collaborations on various aspects of East Asian Screen related studies. We encourage and hope to facilitate research conversations on diverse paradigms and approaches, to enhance our understanding of histories, aesthetics, theories, philosophies, practices and industries of cinema, television and other screen-based media, within East Asian countries and regions, and through trans-regional comparative perspectives.

The East Asian screen cultures SIG is initiated by Kiki Tianqi Yu (QMUL), Victor Fan (KCL), Ruby Cheung (Southampton), and Lin Feng (Leicester), with total 26 founding members, including British based and international scholars, filmmakers and programmers. We endeavour to organise panels at BAFTSS annual conference, focused symposiums, work-in-progress workshops, screenings, publicly engaged events, with periodical publications, contributing to East Asian screen studies globally. We are still in the process of expansion.
